We have been travelling the wonderfully diverse continent of South America for four months now, and in every country we have visited we have been fascinated by the passion and the inspirational ideas of the people we have met. We know that people at home and in other English speaking countries are hungry to learn about Latin America and the political alternatives it presents, and we want to share our experiences of what we have learnt.
The following blogs will cover a range of topics that have interested us and that we have learnt about through talking to local people and participating in various events. From national elections to social movements and street protests; from cooperative businesses and alternative communities to the protection of indigenous cultures, there is a lot to learn.
These stories are inspired by conversations and our own observations; it will never be the full story. We hope they will inspire you to learn more about what politics means to the people of Latin America, and that you will share with us your own thoughts.
